FAQs

  • How does MiraDry work?
  • MiraDry delivers precise electromagnetic pulses to your underarm sweat glands through a handheld device. Our fully accredited MiraDry practitioner has treated hundreds of patients, offering comfort and precision throughout your treatment.

  • How many treatments will I need?
  • A dramatic reduction in sweating should be immediately noticed after the treatment. Most patients will require only one level-five MiraDry treatment however a second treatment may be required after three months for patients with severe hyperhidrosis and/or odour to achieve optimal results.

  • Does the procedure hurt?
  • Patients may feel slight tenderness or soreness in the underarm area for the first few days after treatment. We recommend using ice packs or over-the-counter pain medication to help alleviate symptoms. MiraDry is a safe and effective treatment, and was approved in Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in 2014.

  • How long will I need to be off work or school?
  • The process is quick and non-invasive. You may even return to work after a miraDry procedure, though you will be advised to avoid strenuous exercise for a few days after. To remain comfortable, you may use ice packs and over-the-counter pain medication in the first few days after treatment.

  • Can I bulk-bill my MiraDry treatment?
  • A GP referral is required by the time of appointment and your consultation will be bulk billed.

  • How long will my results last?
  • MiraDry is considered a permanent treatment for excessive underarm sweating because it ensures sweat glands are permanently destroyed.

  • Are there any side effects?
  • Many patients experience some localized soreness and/or swelling in the armpit, which can extend onto the chest wall. This is very transient and should clear within a few days. Some experience more severe thickening in the armpit called banding which can last a few weeks. Less commonly, patients may experience short-term altered sensation in the skin of the upper arm.

  • Where can I get the treatment done?
  • We perform hundreds of miraDry procedures at our Moonee Ponds practice in Melbourne with free parking on site.

MiraDry delivers precise electromagnetic pulses to your underarm sweat glands through a handheld device. MiraDry’s heating process (thermolysis) eliminates sweat glands while leaving the surface of the skin cool and comfortable. By eliminating the sweat glands entirely, MiraDry ensures permanent relief from excessive underarm sweating and embarrassing body odour.

If eliminating entire sections of sweat glands sounds unsettling, don’t worry - the underarm sweat glands only make up around 2% of all the sweat glands in the body, meaning their elimination will not affect the body’s ability to regulate its normal temperature.

The MiraDry process is quick and non-invasive, and provides an immediate reduction in your symptoms. You may even return to work after a miraDry procedure, though you will be advised to avoid strenuous exercise for a few days after.
