Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis can be incredibly debilitating and embarrassing for those who suffer from it
Here at North Western Vascular, Dr Roger Bell has been treating patients for over 25 years. His patients come from all over Australia for his invaluable experience and expertise. Roger is passionate about improving patients’ quality of life and has performed over 1000 sympathectomies for patients with hyperhidrosis and facial blushing as well as treating over 500 patients with axillary hyperhidrosis using the revolutionary MiraDry procedure.
Aside from being an expert in this field, Roger and the entire team here at North Western Vascular care about our patients. We know how upsetting excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis can be. This is why we pride ourselves on being able to treat all our patients with the highest level of professionalism and compassion it requires.
We have a special interest in helping patients manage their excessive sweating wherever it may affect them. We provide long-lasting treatment solutions and support for all of our patients in their battle with excessive sweating. You may be wondering ‘Why do I sweat so much under my armpits?’ This relates to a high concentration of sweat glands in your axillae. Fortunately, MiraDry offers a permanent solution to this condition, which affects patients both mentally and physically.
MiraDry From North Western Vascular
MiraDry has proven to be a highly effective way to combat excessive sweating of the underarms and the embarrassing body odour that accompanies it. MiraDry works by delivering a carefully controlled burst of microwave energy using a handheld device into the sweat glands in your underarms. These microwaves create a heating process known as thermolysis which destroys the sweat glands without affecting the temperature on the surface of your skin.
When we talk about MiraDry as a permanent treatment for excessive underarm sweating, we are referring to the permanent destruction of these sweat glands. The axillae only make up 2% of your body’s surface area and so obliteration of these sweat glands does not impede the body’s ability to regulate body temperature. MiraDry is both quick and non-invasive with a rapid recovery following this procedure. You will be instructed to refrain from any strenuous exercise for a few days after treatment and to control the swelling using ice packs and a simple over-the-counter pain medication during this time.
MiraDry’s Treatment Track Record
From our practice in Moonee Ponds, we have now performed over 500 successful procedures since we started offering the MiraDry treatment in 2014. MiraDry was approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in June of 2014 following its high safety record from FDA in the USA in 2011.
MiraDry is not the only way to treat excessive underarm sweating but it provides the most effective long-term solution. Each treatment much like any other, has its own drawbacks and benefits, but MiraDry is the only treatment that offers a highly-effective and permanent solution to excessive underarm sweating.
After treatment, you may experience some localised soreness or swelling in your armpit which can also be felt in the chest. It is totally natural and will usually go away within a few days. You may also experience some thickening in the armpit known as ‘banding’ which can last up to a few weeks, but our team will be in contact with you after your treatment to ensure that everything is going well and that you are satisfied with your results.
