Excessive Sweaty Armpits Treatment

Sweaty armpits, or axillary hyperhidrosis, involves constant or excessive sweating of the underarms. But you don’t have to suffer from this condition.

At North Western Vascular in Melbourne, our highly recommended miraDry® treatment dramatically reduces underarm sweating and/or odour up to 90%.

Even though the response to ETS is excellent, we have now introduced miraDry® as the recommended treatment of excessive underarm sweating and body odour. Want to reduce underarms sweating and stop underarm sweat? Contact us today.

The procedure is performed onsite at our Moonee Ponds office. Our procedure only takes one and a half hours and we provide free on-site parking.

How Can We Help Treat Excessive Sweaty Armpits?

Many people who suffer from excessively sweaty armpits shower and change their clothes multiple times in a day to avoid odour and embarrassment. People with axillary hyperhidrosis are more likely to decline invitations to any social event because they fear the embarrassment of visibly sweaty armpits.

How Does MiraDry work?

MiraDry delivers carefully controlled electromagnetic energy to your underarm sweat glands through a handheld device.

Through a heating process known as thermolysis, miraDry destroys sweat glands while the surface of the skin remains cool and comfortable. MiraDry is considered a permanent treatment for excessive underarm sweat because it ensures sweat glands are permanently destroyed.

Since the underarm sweat glands only make up around 2% of all the sweat glands in the body, their elimination does not affect the body’s ability to regulate its normal temperature.

The process is quick and non-invasive. You may even return to work after a miraDry procedure, though you will be advised to avoid strenuous exercise for a few days after. To remain comfortable, you may use ice packs and over-the-counter pain medication in the first few days after treatment.

MiraDry Versus Other Treatments

There are a few treatments to control underarm sweat and they are all unique in their benefits. However, miraDry is the only highly-effective permanent solution to excessive underarm sweating.

FAQs

Why do I sweat so much from my armpits?
You are not alone. Probably up to 2% of the population sweat uncontrollably. When it affects the armpits, it is called axillary hyperhidrosis. This is a common area for excessive sweating, as there is a high concentration of sweat glands in the axillae.
Most will have tried the whole range of anti-perspirants, including the stronger Aluminium based agents such as Driclor, without success. Injections are effective, but provide temporary relief only, and therefore has to be repeated every 3 to 6 months. Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy (ETS) is a very good operation for many patients with hyperhidrosis. However for patients with underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis), 20% will not achieve the result they were looking for, and there is a small but significant risk of rebound sweating or compensatory hyperhidrosis. We firmly believe that miraDry is the best option for patients with excessive armpit sweating or odour.
MiraDry is also extremely effective in treating patients with body odour. In countries such as Japan, patients are more likely to have the procedure for odour rather than excessive sweating.
We began offering miraDry treatment in October 2014 and became fully accredited soon after. North Western Vascular prides itself on being the leader in hyperhidrosis treatment offering exceptional service to patients. To date, we have treated over 350 patients with outstanding results.
Histological studies show the majority of sweat glands are destroyed by the thermal injury imparted by the microwaves. From the patient’s perspective, there is a 50 – 90% reduction in sweating and the results are usually immediate.
No, the sweat glands that have been destroyed during treatment will not regenerate.
